Sensory Ball Pit/Crash Pit Equipment
Ball Pits and Crash Pits
Custom ball pits and crash pits create enclosed, padded activity areas that can be incorporated into sensory gyms, therapy rooms, schools, and other supervised movement environments. Each pit is designed around the available space, intended users, surrounding equipment, and planned activities.
Ball pits provide a colorful, immersive space for supervised activities involving crawling, reaching, searching, sorting, throwing, catching, and moving through resistance. Colored balls may also be used for matching, counting, identification, sequencing, and guided retrieval activities.
Crash pits provide a designated padded area for appropriately planned and supervised movement activities. They may be positioned near elevated platforms, slides, climbing features, swings, or other equipment when the room layout and completed design support that use.
During supervised use, these pits can support activities involving body awareness, gross-motor movement, balance, coordination, motor planning, transitions, spatial awareness, and whole-body movement. The activity format can be adapted by therapists, educators, caregivers, or program staff according to each user’s needs.
Each pit is custom-built to fit the room and can be configured in different lengths, widths, depths, and shapes. Every completed design considers the entrance location, perimeter height, user access, surrounding circulation, nearby equipment, visibility, and the amount of clear operating space available.
Royalty Sensory Gyms ball pits and crash pits are constructed with a padded perimeter, typically including approximately five inches of high-density foam. Materials, upholstery colors, interior dimensions, access points, and surrounding floor protection can be coordinated with the larger room design.
Pits can be installed as standalone features or connected to castles, tree houses, elevated platforms, slides, stairs, ramps, tunnels, and other custom sensory gym structures.
A ball pit or crash pit may also be paired with climbing walls and movement features, including cargo nets, angled ladders, ninja ramps, monkey bars, overhead equipment, or selected sensory equipment and activity features.
Surrounding areas can be finished with padded sensory gym flooring selected to complement the pit, improve visual continuity, and create a coordinated activity environment.
Custom pits can be included in complete commercial sensory gyms for therapy clinics, schools, healthcare facilities, nonprofits, and community spaces. They may also be considered for appropriately sized home sensory rooms.
During our consultation, design, manufacturing, and installation process, we evaluate pit dimensions, perimeter construction, access, fill requirements, nearby equipment, platform connections, padded flooring, visibility, supervision needs, traffic flow, and required operating clearances.
